Country Activities
UNIFEM CEDAW Southeast Asia Programme (CEDAW SEAP) prioritizes strengthening capacities of rights-holders to claim their rights and duty-bearers to fulfil their obligations in accordance with commitments to CEDAW implementation in seven participating countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Philippines, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam. All of these countries have ratified or acceded to CEDAW. With the exception of Timor Leste, all of the seven countries have reported at least once to the CEDAW Committee. The ratification and reports, together, create a strong basis for moving forward on implementation. Country-level initiatives will be enhanced through activities to build vibrant and informed CEDAW networks across countries that can reinforce national activities and ensure sustained leadership and expertise in the region.
CEDAW SEAP has a wide reach across all programme
countries. The programme aims to benefit women generally (and their
families), or targeted groups of women, in all seven countries through
a host of targeted activities. To achieve these aims, the Programme
will work with relevant government institutions including provincial
and local governments, local NGOs and other Civil Society Organisations
(CSOs).
