International Women’s Week 2006: Women and the Coming Senator Election, Thailand: 

1-2 March 2006,  To celebrate the international Women’s Day of this year, Gender and Development Research Institute organized a 2-day gathering of nationwide women leaders, NGOs and networks of grassroots, academics and media people, and representatives of the government departments. The event was held on March 1-2 at the Civil Service Training Institute, Nonthaburi Province, Thailand. It consists of the following sub-activities:

a) A forum on ‘Women and the Coming Senator Election: The Pressing Agenda for the 2006 International Women’s Week focusing on the need for more women in the Senate and legislative concerns of women on March 1, 2006.

b) The Presentation of the Prime Minister’s Plaques and Certificates for the “Outstanding Women” and the sharing session of their problems approaches to overcome the problems, factors influencing their success and plans to promote the roles and status of women on March 2, 2006.

The event is supported by UNIFEM, organized by Gender and Development Research Institute (GDRI) under Association for the Promotion of the Status of Women (APSW).
