The UNIFEM under its CEDAWSEAP program will
co-sponsor with the UN Gender Mainstreaming Committee a launch of
the `March-to-Ten’ Campaign, an
advocacy and
capacity building campaign on women’s human rights and
gender-responsive governance. It consists of an integrated series
of five (5) regional workshops around the country that highlights
women’s human rights and good governance as priority platform for
action. It highlights CEDAW as an interactive framework and tool
with other human rights instruments. It will enhance the
coordination of national and local resources for collective
action, partnership and accountability.
The launch will be held on March 08, 2005, 10:30 –
12:00 noon at the Clamshell Pavilion of the historic Intramuros
tourism complex in Manila. There will be a short video
presentation explaining the campaign and then followed by a
message of the UNDP Resident Coordinator. Then, there is the
opening of booth exhibit by various women’s organizations that
include the UN booth displaying posters, publications and
hand-outs. CEDAWSEAP posters and materials will be part of the UN
exhibit.
The launch will be followed by a series of regional
workshops, the first of which is tentatively set for March 30,
with a workshop on `CEDAW, Beijing+10 and the MDG – Platform for
Action for Gender-Responsive Governance’ in Metro Manila. The
Philippine Delegation to the New York conference on Beijing+10
will present the results and challenges to pursue. The workshop
results will be brought to regional workshops with additional
highlights on thematic concerns such as CEDAW and Poverty, CEDAW
and Reproductive Health, CEDAW and Local Governance. In a
build-up process, it is hoped that a wider circle of duty bearers
and claimholders will be linked toward effective CEDAW advocacy
and resource complementation. The over-all synthesis and
recommendations will be reported to the December 10, 2005
International Human Rights Day celebration.
